急須をつくる。その営みは同じでも、
たどり着くかたちは一つではありません。
使いやすさや注ぎ心地といった、
道具として求められる条件を満たしたその先に、
作り手それぞれの個性や考えが表れます。
育 ってきた 環 境 や 経 験 、文 化 、美 意 識 、
そして土選びや焼成、釉薬、加飾を用いながら、
その考えは急須というかたちへと結実していきます。
今回並ぶ二人の急須は、
そうした違いを映し出す、対照的な仕事の結晶です。
また常滑という土地が育んできた表現の豊かさの一端でもあります。
先人たちから脈々と受け継がれてきた技術や精神は、
それぞれの時代の作り手によって新たな解釈を与えられ、
多様なかたちへと展開してきました。
二人のContrastsを通して、
常滑の急須づくりが持つ奥行きと広がりも
感じていただければ幸いです。

Making teapots.
Though the process is the same, the resulting forms are never identical.
Beyond meeting the requirements expected of a functional object—such as ease of use and the feel of pouring—the individuality and philosophy of each maker come to the fore.
Through their upbringing, experiences, culture, and aesthetic sensibilities, and through the selection of clay, firing techniques, glazes, and decorative elements, these ideas take shape as teapots.
The teapots by these two artists on display here are the crystallization of contrasting approaches that reflect these differences.
They also represent a glimpse of the rich diversity of expression nurtured by the land of Tokoname.
The techniques and spirit passed down through generations have been reinterpreted by artisans of each era, evolving into a diverse array of forms.
We hope that through these two artists’ “Contrasts,” you will sense the depth and breadth of teapot-making in Tokoname.
